Did you know that it’s possible to travel the world while you live in prison? I've pastored and visited in correctional centers from Alaska to Nicaragua. I've also visited hundreds of houses of people in the America’s and Southern Africa. And the worst prisons I've found were found in the hearts and minds of people who live in the secret addiction to porn, drugs and alcohol.
Often there are innocent victims who suffer abuse at the hands of those addicted. This abuse can include physical, mental, verbal and/or sexual abuse.
Sadly, too many of these victims suffer in secret silence. They often feel guilty and blame themselves. No one outside of their house really knows what’s going on.
What’s going on in your house? God knows what’s going on and God loves you! 1 Peter 5: 7 says, “Caste all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Romans 5: 8 says, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." God is the perfect parent who always loves his children. Too many children, young and old, live in the poverty of secret guilt with little hope for a happy life. They don't know the joy of living in a home.
Did you know there's a difference between living in a house and living in a home? A house is a building where love can be void. But a home is a place where true love is experienced. A home is a place where people are nourished in every healthy way.
When you're addicted to some substance or destructive behavior, or suffer at the hands and tongue of another person, you become a slave to a master that destroys your life and the lives of those around you. If you or someone you love is hurting, don’t give up or give in and think that it can't be stopped.
Even in churches around the world there are Christians who are slaves to secret addictions and abuse of many kinds. In John 10: 10, Jesus said, "The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Start enjoying your life today!
This isn't a life only to be enjoyed at a later time in eternity. This is a life that can be enjoyed today. Don’t give up on yourself, your spouse, your children, or anyone else you love. You are a valuable creation of God.
God made you for a purpose! And we find that purpose stated in Matthew 22: 37-39. You are created to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. That's right. God wants you to love yourself. Not live your life feeling like you are less than a beautiful creation.
Open the door to your house and invite God inside. Jesus said in Matthew 7: 7, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Ask God to make your house a home. Take the first step towards the door and allow it to open. There is a better and brighter life waiting for you! And it begins with one little step.
